Azim Premji Foundation (Shaping India’s Future)

Azim Premji foundation was set up by Premji’s dad in 1945 as a vegetable oil producer. Premji took control of the business after his dad’s passed away in 1966 at age 21. In the mid-1980s Wipro turned into a software service organization and now have more than 160,000 individuals employed. It is a not-for-profit organization that was made in 2000 and has focused on improving education in India. The Initiative of building Azim Premji University is the prime example of their inclination towards a better education system. The organization aims to change the state-funded educational framework instead of making ‘islands of brilliance.

Recently Azim Premji has decided to hand shares of his tech company worth nearly $7.5 billion to his philanthropic foundation.
So far in the last several years, the tech tycoon has already donated a total of $21 billion to the Azim Premji Foundation which includes 67% of Wipro’s shares, the foundation stated.

Since 2000 the Azim Premji Foundation is working on developing rural government school’s primary educational system. The organization initiated by implementing different projects; however by 2010 they realized these efforts would show results in years. The organization also realized that perpetual efforts are the only way of bringing a significant change in the educational system of the country.

Today Azim Premji Foundation has established more than 350000 schools across India. These schools located in over 40 districts that are six states and one union territory.

on Nov 14, 1999, the company jotted down education, nutrition, healthcare, and some governance initiatives as their area of work to be.later on the company further narrow down their field of operations to primary education.

Azim Premji foundations history is divided into the following phases

  • 2001-2002 was the era when the organization decided to work in the public education sector.
  • In 2002-2009 period, the organization worked with the state governments to improve or develop curriculum and education policies.
  • Since 2009 onward the focused is on further growth and constant development in the education sector.
